New York, NY, August 13, 2008 -- Former Washington State Governor Gary Locke and former Cabinet Secretary Norman Mineta are scheduled to return to New York City on September 16th on behalf of their PAC, America’s Opportunity Fund (AOF). They plan to spread the message of hope and change as it relates to the upcoming General Election, less than 90 days away.

Hosts of the evening include: Terrance Yang, a Harvard Law School classmate of Presidential hopeful Barack Obama and of Obama AAPI National Leadership Council, and Grace Yu, a Rhodes Scholar and also from the Obama AAPI National Leadership Council.  The event will be held at the home of Virginia Davies and Willard B. Taylor, who previously hosted Senator Obama at their home in Manhattan.  The conversation between AOF’s co-chairs and guests will be of the role members of the Asian American community can play in the upcoming election.

Both Locke and Mineta have been touring the country hosting numerous events promoting the PAC, which has been met with overwhelming support across the nation. They were both clear about the purpose of their new organization, by stating “We cannot take for granted participation from Asian American and Pacific Islanders and other ethnic communities in the 2008 Election. We are committed to providing full access to the electoral process by encouraging active participation in, and by, communities of color.  And, we recognize the need to encourage political candidates to campaign fully in these important communities."

Locke and Mineta are committed to support progressive candidates at the federal and state-wide level in pivotal races who are sympathetic and sensitive to the issues of people of color and ethnic minorities, and to encourage communities of color to more fully participate in the electoral process.

“We are striving to make a significant difference in the outcome of key races across the nation this November,” said Governor Locke.   “America’s Opportunity Fund would like to thank all of our supporters from across the country, for helping to promote this important organization. It is only with your support that we can achieve what is right for America,” added Secretary Mineta.
